About Us

Our Story

We think Alaskan Malamutes are one of the most underrated breeds out there. With soaring rates of Malamutes being given up to shelters, we’ve made it our mission to spread the love and make the breed more accessible to the right owners.

Here at The Malamute Mom, we’re dedicated to providing the best and most up-to-date information to keep you Malamutes and Huskies happy and healthy.

To us, Huskies are the natural counterpart to Alaskan Malamutes. They both look similar, regularly get confused with each other, and have similar breed origins. For that reason – we love Huskies too!

Huskies and Malamutes are still very different dogs, despite their physical similarities. So we’ve expanded our website to include Husky care guides to make sure Husky owners are getting the information they need to look after their companions.

Meet Our Team

Caitlin Ryan

Founder and Writer

Hi everyone! I’m Caitlin – the lead author and owner of The Malamute Mom. My Alaskan Malamute journey started at 13, when my family adopted a beautiful rescue called Layla. Layla was my absolute best friend up until her passing, and I’ve made it my goal to surround myself with Malamutes and Huskies ever since.

I’m now working on getting my PhD in materials science, and I run The Malamute Mom in my spare time. I absolutely love the connections I’ve made with dog owners across the world and my favourite part of the job is having photos sent in by you guys!

Carrie Hambrick

Husky Expert Writer

Hi, I’m Carrie! I’ve always had a special connection with nature, and animals of all shapes and sizes in particular. I believe that dogs truly are man’s best friend, and can’t imagine my life without my four-legged family members.

I’ve been a writer for nearly a decade, and recently joined the Malamute Mom team. I love providing information to other dog lovers. Huskies are one of my favorite breeds, thanks to their challenging, yet adorable personality.

Husky ownership requires an adventurous soul, energy, and a strong drive. To own a husky, you must have the heart of a husky.  I believe well informed owners can improve huskies’ lives, and prevent unfortunate surrenders and accidents.

Our Experience

The reason we love Alaskan Malamutes and Huskies so much is because we’ve owned them! We know their personalities inside-out and have learned all the tricks to make living with them easier.

Fact Checked By Vets

To make sure we’re providing you with accurate and up-to-date advice, we’ve asked vets to fact-check our articles. Look out for the blue check mark on our articles!
